The Rescue Diver course offered by the International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers (IANTD) is a scuba diving certification program designed to teach divers how to prevent and respond to diving emergencies.

The course typically consists of classroom sessions, pool or confined water sessions, and open water training dives. During the course, students learn about dive theory, equipment, safety, and risk management, as well as how to recognize and respond to diving emergencies.

To enroll in the Rescue Diver course, students must be certified as Advanced Open Water Divers or have an equivalent certification from a recognized scuba diving agency. They must also have a minimum number of logged dives, meet the age requirement (usually 18 years old), and have a valid CPR and first aid certification.

During the course, students learn how to prevent and respond to diving emergencies, including how to recognize and respond to stress, panic, and equipment failures. They also learn how to assist other divers in distress and how to perform rescue skills both in the water and on the surface.

The course is typically divided into four modules: knowledge development, confined water sessions, open water training dives, and scenarios. In the knowledge development module, students learn about dive theory, equipment, safety, and risk management related to diving emergencies.

In the confined water sessions, students practice rescue skills in a controlled environment, such as how to manage an unresponsive diver or provide assistance to a panicked diver. In the open water training dives, students apply their skills in a realistic environment, such as performing rescue scenarios in open water.

In the scenarios module, students participate in simulated emergency scenarios and practice their rescue skills as part of a team. This module also emphasizes communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Upon successful completion of the Rescue Diver course, students will be certified as Rescue Divers and will have the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent and respond to diving emergencies. They can go on to further their training and become a Divemaster or scuba diving instructor.
